Obama: Chicago Factory Occupation Workers 'absolutely right'

By Ben Trott

Over the last few days, workers at the Republic Windows & Doors factory in Chicago have been occupying their workplace, demanding the severance and holiday pay owed to them. In a quote carried by the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, Obama is said to have stated yesterday,
'When it comes to the situation here in Chicago with the workers who are asking for their benefits and payments they have earned, I think they are absolutely right.'
The statement was made at a press conference announcing the nomination of retired General Erik K. Shinseki as Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Shinseki has been described by the Washington Post as former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's 'nemesis'.
